Pre-Production
28/8/19 (Week 1)
For our first class, Mr. Martin gave us a brief introduction about the module and explained to us that he will be conducting more on the video production while Mr. Razif on sound production. He also mentioned that we will be required to pair up for our final project which is to produce a stop motion video. For our first exercise, we were taught how to do some basic editing with Adobe Premiere Pro with a series of clips given.
We were asked to look for three stop motion videos that we like and explain what we like about it. Here are the 3 stop motion videos that I chose.
1. Submarine Sandwich - PES
The use of random objects to be made into a sandwich feels surreal. The sound effects, the fluidity of every movement, feels as if I am watching a real sandwich-making video. To compare how real a stop motion video is to reality is insane.
I love how this stop-motion focuses on fabric as their medium. It has an amazing storyline and the animation is superb. The fighting scenes in this stop motion has good movement. I like how it keeps the viewers entertained at all times, and that each time there would be new surprises happening to the plot.
3. Crazy office worker's night meal - Omozoc
I like the quirky concept in this video where the man came home from work and start cutting and making everything random for his food. To make non-food items to appear like food requires a change in perspective. Thus, this stop motion tweaks our reaction towards the non-food items being prepared as real food. It is paired with good sound effects and movement which increase the effect of realism.
4/9/19 (Week 2)
My stop motion idea is to tell a story with a very conceptual and deep storyline. I want to create something that also brings some sort of humor at the same time. So that the viewers are required to think about the concept as well as being entertained at the same time. I plan to use mix media such as clay, paper cut and puppets. The visual style is like Negative Space by Ru Kuwahata & Max Porter. I really like the storyline and the use of the medium plays a crucial part in the storyline as well. I love the miniature style and the atmosphere the project gives. I aspire to create something like this. The selling point of my stop motion would be the storyline and the concept of the project.

No progression for this week.
2/10/19 (Week 6)
This week we had a consultation with Mr. Martin where we share the ideas we have regarding our stop motion. He looked at each of our idea proposals and said that I have to think of my idea in a stop motion format, to be against the idea of reality as it needs to be exaggerated and should not really make sense.
9/10/19 (Week 7)
16/10/19 (Week 8)
We had to propose our storyline idea and storyboards to Mr. Martin and Mr. Razif in class. Below is the final project proposal:

23/10/19 (Week 9)
This week we started on our test shoot. Unfortunately, the camera I had didn't live up to our expectations. It was dark and blurry and unable to zoom into the objects up close. Hence, we shot our test video using our phones.

However, after some discussions our video seem to be very realistic and does not really bring out the element of stop motion. So me and Kar Yan discussed again and changed some parts of our stop motion video.
Production
Me and Kar Yan started by creating the characters from clay. I was in charge of camera while Kar Yan is moves the puppet one by one. It was really hard for us since it was our first time and the clay dried up really easily and keeps cracking as well. Even though we started really early, we had to always work from 8 am to 8 pm continuously for the stop motion.
Post-Production
Video Editing
For the editing process of the video, I am in charge of video editing. I compiled the shots and edited it in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Sound Editing
For sound editing, Qian Hui was in charge of it. Although most of our sounds were sourced online, there were still plenty of sound effects where it didn't fit so we had to create our own foley sound effects.
