WEEK 1 (4/4/19)

During our first week of class, Mr Hafiz began with a brief introduction about the module and introduced us to Adobe Illustrator which is a software that we will be using alot for this module. Then, we started on our first exercise which is the Vormator Challenge. We were guided by Mr Hafiz on how to trace the Vormator shapes. We learnt how to use the pen tool to trace each of the 8 shapes. After that, we were assigned to create a character using only the 8 shapes given with specific rules as below.

  • No distortion of shapes
  • Only 3 colours can be used
  • Rotating, flipping and scaling proportionally is allowed

Since we were allowed to use any colours now, I experimented with 4 different colour scheme for my character. I designed a cat and deer hybrid mermaid.

WEEK 5 (2/5/19)

Today, we got to visit Fabspace in Isetan, Lot 10 instead of having lecture. We got to see the works produced by the store. I learned that the store provides various kinds of printing service including laser cutting, UV printing on acrylic, keychain, embroidery and more.

They offered to print 2 samples of our vormator designs for free. Thankfully, mine got selected for UV acrylic painting while Baahy's design got selected for laser cut printing.

The shop keeper also taught us how to outline our characters and told us format them before coming next round.

I went back to Fabspace once again to print my final outcomes. This time, I printed a large size vormator on 15cm x 17cm acrylic, and 4 keychains.
